Sony launches SRS-NS7 wireless neckband speaker with Dolby Atmos

Sony today launched the SRS-NS7, the newest model in its wireless neckband series. The SRS-NS7 is the first neckband speaker in the world to feature Dolby Atmos.

The SRS-NS7 comes with the WLA-NS7 Bluetooth transmitter and together with BRAVIA XR television models can transmit Dolby Atmos audio to the speaker. Using the 360 Spatial Sound Personalizer app, users can take pictures of their ears to create an HRTF map of their ears, which is then fed back into the system to tailor the Atmos sound to your specific ear and head shape.

The SRS-NS7 along with the WLA-NS7 transmitter and BRAVIA XR TV can also minimize the latency in audio for a better viewing experience. However, this low latency feature only works if you use the transmitter with BRAVIA XR TV models, and not with other TVs, including Sony’s own.

Aside from pairing with the bundled transmitter, the SRS-NS7 can also pair with a smartphone or any Bluetooth source. With the included mic, you can also make calls. The SRS-NS7 can also connect to two devices at once, so you could, for example, connect to your PC and your smartphone at the same time.

The SRS-NS7 features a dual-driver design that features a single active driver and one passive radiator on either side. Both are angled upwards for precise positioning of the sound. The speaker has a fabric cover and a flexible neckband. It is also IPX4 splash-resistant.

The SRS-NS7 has a claimed battery life of 12-hours. A quick ten minute charge from flat can give 60 minutes of battery life.

The SRS-NS7 is priced at $300 and available to pre-order today. The WLA-NS7 wireless transmitter is also sold separately for $60 and can be used with select other Sony Bluetooth headphones.
