
It looks like the AMD Radeon RX 6600 non-XT version will offer an attractive hash rate for Ethereum mining when power consumption is considered. The AMD RX 6600 XT already offered an attractive hash rate relative to its power draw, and the AMD RX 6600 XT looks to compete with it and also the RTX 3060 for Ethereum mining.
RX 6600 vs RX 6600 XT vs RTX 3060 Hash Rate
Generally speaking, it has been Nvidia GPUs that have dominated the crypto mining space, so much so that Nvidia had to take the step of releasing their LHR (Lite Hash Rate) models of graphics cards with capped crypto mining performance, in order that the humble gamer could get hold of a GPU before the miners snapped it up.
It appears though that the latest Radeon graphics cards may provide a viable alternative for those looking to enter the crypto mining market at the entry-level. In particular, the energy efficiency of the RX 6600 and RX 6600 XT look very promising. According to Wccftech, their sources at retailers who have already got their hands on both graphics cards have tested their Ethereum mining capabilities, at both the stock settings and also after being tuned for mining performance. The drivers said retailers used were the BETA AMD drivers, which indicates that further performance could be squeezed out of these cards with more updated drivers down the line. The Ethereum mining results for both graphics cards are listed below, along with those of the RTX 3060 as this is the closest competitor.

As you can see above, although the max hash rate of the Nvidia RTX 3060 (which can range between 40 MH/s and 50MH/s depending on the driver used and which miner you speak to) is a great deal higher, the power draw / power sip of the graphics card is also substantially higher, and on a PPW (Performance Per Wat) basis, it underperforms the more efficient RX 6600 and RX 6600 XT.
The RX 6600 non-XT has about 95% of the mining performance of the more expensive RX 6600 XT, but this still equals out to a slightly higher PPW for the cheaper card of 0.61 PPW vs 0.60 PPW, making it the slightly more worthwhile option for miners.
In gaming terms the AMD Radeon RX 6600 is also looking to directly compete with the NVidia RTX 3060 in price and performance. As soon as we get hold of the new AMD GPU on its release we will be doing some thorough benchmarking to test these claims, so watch this space!
